“The sense of deep time brings a deep peace with it, a detachment from the timescale, the urgencies, of daily life… a profound sense of being at home, a sort of companionship with the earth.”
Oliver Sacks
Ahhh... "a detachment from... the urgencies of daily life" is exactly what I feel when I surround myself with the natural world. A hike up the hill through the grass and sage with the dogs bounding joyously around me, and soon whatever my mind had been focused on is replaced with the feel of the fresh air, the scent of warm earth and the sounds of birds twittering their way across the landscape. Nature doesn't ponder the past or worry about the future; it is the essence of presence. What is happening right at that moment is all that matters and I am happy to get drawn into that state of being.
With my mind so focused on the present, I can't help but feel companionship - togetherness and intimacy with my surroundings. And it is so peaceful. And it is home.
With my paintings I'd like to share with you that deep peace, companionship with the earth and "profound sense of home".
